I know the Indian fans are disappointed after the 3 run loss against Australia in the 5th ODI but without our master Tendulkar's effort it would not have mattered much. We coudlnt see Kapil Dev's 175 effort from history, though India lost today's game, does Sachin's effort top Kapil's Innings?

Does anybody know what the scenario was when Kapil Dev pulled that 175 Not out game?

I think we can't compare the two innings and conclude one is better than the other, because both came in different context.

when Kapil was scoring 175, i think nobody might have think about a figure like 175 from a single batsmen. In fact Kapil performed in world cup match and India was batting first in that match and the condition was India lost 5 early wickets after scoring just 17 runs.

Here the situation was entirely different. India was chasing a total, and lost some early wickets and still wants to score 7 runs per over to achieve the target.

India was 17/5 when Kapil Dev made that 175. That innings helped India win and lead them to their 1983 World Cup win.

Sachin's innings was a great one, but the match itself was not very consequential.

No conparison. kapil scored in world cup while tendular in o very ordinary series. kapil came when india was 17 for 5 with entire cream of Indian batting in pavillion. tendulkar scored when benchmark is already 195 by seed anwar, kapil scored when no body had scored so many runs. Kapil scored in england tendular ion a docile wicket where all Oz batsmen had scored runs very eaasily for example White had completed his 50 with 5 sixesin 30 odd balls and went not out for 60 same was with hussey
